Active tectonics, quantitative structural geology and geomorphology; fault zone structure and geomorphology; earthquake surface rupture and paleoseismology; tectonic geomorphology; theoretical studies of faulting and hillslope development; the San Andreas Fault system; active deformation in central Asia; regional geology and stratigraphic context for paleoanthropology in the Afar region of Ethiopia; Gulf of California tectonics and surface processes; integrated investigation of earthquake hazards; high resolution topography derived from LiDAR technology; engineering geologic field methods; Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, and Geoinformatics; Cyberinfrastructure; and Quaternary Geology and desert surface processes (esp. in the southwestern US and Mexico).
