Advanced Aerospace Seals Research

Project: Research project

Grant Details

Description

Testing and analysis of elastomeric seal materials and thermo-elastic analysis of seals 1. Coordinate efforts to monitor exposure of space environments (atomic oxygen, ultraviolet radiation), on elastomeric and other seal materials, including development of necessary software or analysis codes. 2. Advise NASA analysts for hyper-elastic models for seal materials, including the development and fitting of new models to predict first-run loading behaviors. 3. Provide consultation on other analysis or post-processing software related to seal development activities. Analysis of composite high temperature structural seals and thermal barriers 1. Develop a multiscale model for predicting elastic behavior of packed fibers and woven structures and fabrics (such as saffill batting, knitted spring tubes, and ceramic fabrics). 2. Perform modeling of different spring configurations for preloading of different high temperature preloaders.
