Abstract
A portable laserDopplervelocimeter designed for the measurement of two orthogonal velocity components which fluctuate in sign is presently being constructed. The optical system design overcomes one difficulty associated with standard two-dimensional LDV systems by utilising an equiangular three beam configuration to permit measurement of the normal velocity component v Bery close to a wall. Detection of the sign of the fluctuating components as well as elimination of cross-channel interference is accomplished by using a single acousto-optic modulator to shift the frequencies of two of the beams by 30 and 40 mHz respectively. The instrument is designed to operate in a backscatter mode with a2W argon laser, and is intended for measurements in low speed (s 1 mm/sec) to medium speed (+ or ! 8 m/sec) flowT (A)
