A High Power High Isolation Medium Frequency Transformer With A Planar Matrix Structure

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Conference contribution

Abstract

High voltage insulation and thermal management are the two major challenges in a compact high-power medium frequency transformer (MFT) design. This paper proposes a novel magnetic building block concept for the first time which integrates the planar and matrix transformer concept for high power MFT application. The planar design exhibit significantly reduced height and larger surface area, resulting in improved heat dissipation capability. Besides integrating the matrix transformer concept, four different types of turns ratio are available by simply changing the internal winding connections. The developed 200 kW MFT achieve 27.2 kW/L power density and estimated 99.75 % efficiency at full power.
