Abstract
Purpose: Perimeters and campimeters are large devices due to their spaceconsuming cupolas and screens. Based on a head mounted device a miniaturized campimetric system has been developed. Methods and Results: Visual stimuli are generated on a computer and displayed via high resolution liquid crystal displays in a head mounted device. Monocular, binocular and stereoscopic presentation of visual stimuli is feasible. An eye tracking system for fixation control has been incorporated, consisting of an infrared-sensitive video camera and a frame grabber. A program for automated campimetry has been implemented. In healthy individuals, the blind spot was accurately detected by the HCMS. The probands eyes are shielded from ambient light, thus visual tests can be performed without dimming the room lights. Conclusions: The small size of the HCMS and its use in ambient light conditions are important advantages to current perimetric or campimetric devices. The eye tracker allows fixation control and gaze analysis. Equiped with adequate software, the HCMS can be further developed into a versatile tool for various tests of visual functions.
