Abstract

The fixed-ammonium concentration in sediments hosting exhalative Zn-Pb-(Ag) sulphide deposits was examined by IR spectroscopy. Increases occur in the hanging wall over undisturbed orebodies. The association of NH4-minerals with these hydrothermal ore deposits was studied at four deposits in the Selwyn Basin, Yukon Territory, Canada (Howards Pass, Clear Lake, Tom and Jason). 036NH4+ values average 467-470 ppm but locally reach 2000 ppm in the Selwyn River basin. In McArthur River's Emu basin, 036NH4+ values of 2228 and 2448 ppm were measured in two samples adjacent to the mineralization.-P.R.L.B.
