Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the logistics costs involved in the movement of goods between different facilities of a large South African fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturer. We find that a thorough analysis of logistics component costs, the characteristics of the products being transported and providing adequate training and development for people involved in distribution and logistics management are key factors that help to minimize transportation costs whilst maintaining high service levels.
