Abstract
The radiation patterns for linear arrays with high aperture efficiency and low sidelobes were obtained using constrained least square method (CLS) and simulated annealing (SA). The CLS method and the form of distribution are based upon the the theoretical derivation for the solution of a class of optimization problems in communication. In SA approach, a cost function is minimized to achieve the desired values. It was found that the analytical CLS approach solves only a few specific problem, whereas the SA solves a variety of related problems and obtain sidelobe topographies.
