N2 - Radiation is a main hazard to astronauts, and precise biological approaches for detecting the absorbed dose of space radiation during long deep space missions are currently lacking. Gene expression assay is a promising biodosimetry approach that is less complex than the traditional cytogenetic biodosimetry assays. In this study, we demonstrated detection of radiation sensitive genes using our recently developed paper-based Vertical Flow Platform (VFP) through an immunoassay format. We also designed and prototyped the automation of the VFP module as a point-of-care (POC) monitoring device for ultimate usability of astronauts in space.
