Bisexuality and Adolescence

A decade ago, the author and a colleague observed that little was known about female adolescent bisexuality and contributed an empirical article on the topic to this journal. They used the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (the Add Health Study) to provide documentation of same-sex attractions and relationships among female adolescents in the United States. In looking back at that article, the author considers how far the field has come in scholarship on adolescence and bisexuality-yet at a basic level the coauthors still have much to learn. Understanding of adolescent bisexuality will continue to shift due to influences of expanding communication technologies and to growing awareness of the complexities of sexualities and identities.
