Abstract

Design methodologies used in computer-aided design systems are examined. Several typical cases are reviewed. They are: computational models for hierarchical mechanical system design, optimal directed design models, knowledge-based creative design models, and model-based system design. Common trends in the area of design methodologies are discussed.
