Abstract

The present study attempted a conceptual replication of Valins and Ray (1967), altering certain aspects of their "cognitive desensitization" procedure in order to more closely approximate the systematic desensitization situation. The results failed to replicate Valins and Ray's findings, suggesting that cognitive desensitization may not be a useful model of systematic desensitization.
