Abstract

We propose that a novel type of collective mode may exist in a disordered two-dimensional electron gas in a strong perpendicular magnetic field. The mode results from the coupling of plasmons to transverse excitations by the Lorentz force. It is most likely to emerge above the continuum of intra-Landau-level particle-hole excitations when the Landau level is near half filling.
