Abstract

Mobile health (mHealth) applications can support mindfulness and mental wellness among rural youth, but deployments in these settings face substantial infrastructure and accessibility challenges. Unreliable connectivity, heterogeneous devices, and community-specific program needs require systems that are offline-first, highly configurable, and sustainable across varied contexts. We present a modular, offline-capable mHealth system that delivers customizable resilience-building tools, including guided breathing exercises, reflection prompts, creative journaling, and team-based movement challenges. Each feature functions fully offline and can be enabled or disabled based on community priorities and cultural context. The system incorporates an on-device data model for seamless use without connectivity, a pluggable module system to tailor feature sets, and a reward-based engagement layer with streaks and collaborative goals.
