Abstract

This paper discusses the recent results in recruiting a large cohort of new faculty for new positions within the College of Engineering at the University of Arizona. The results obtained are part of a multi-year plan to grow the overall size of the faculty by 25% of its current size. Aligned with the college and university's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), faculty search committees were expected to recruit a diverse pool. This paper discusses the process and the outcomes from implementing an active recruiting plan during three hiring cycles between 2019-2022. Of the 32 faculty hired during this period, over 40% represent one or more underrepresented groups in engineering as identified by the US National Science Foundation.
