N1 - Funding Information: Image 13 Prof. Despo Fatta-Kassinos’s research expertise focuses on wastewater treatment and reuse, advanced chemical oxidation processes, contaminants of emerging concern, and antimicrobial resistance in the environment and wastewater technical systems. Among other prizes, in 2012 she received the distinguished national research award by the Research and Innovation Foundation of Cyprus, while in 2022 the Noack Laboratorien Outstanding Science Career Award by The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC). She is included in a list of the most cited scientists in world released by Stanford University, and she is a Highly Cited Researcher since 2018 (Web of Science, Clarivate Analytics), with an h-index of 75 and more than 26,500 citations. She was the Chair of the Scientific and Technological Advisory Board of the European JPI 'Water Challenges for a Changing World' for the years 2015–2019, the Chair of the COST Action NEREUS ES1403, and the Coordinator of the H2020-MSCA-ITN-2015/675530/ANSWER project, focusing on challenges of wastewater treatment and reuse. She has been the coordinator or the principal investigator of numerous European, national, and regional research projects with a total budget of 12.7 million EUR. She is a member of the scientific advisory boards of various research centers in Europe like CRETUS and ICRA in Spain, and the Chair of the Advisory Board of the African Center of Excellence in Water and Environment Research (ACEWATER) located in Nigeria. She is Executive Editor of the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering and Editor of Water Research, Elsevier. She has developed the awarded book for children “The secret handbook of the blue circle” on the water cycle and its challenges, published in various countries, and also by IWA Publishing.
