N2 - In this article, we briefly critique the use of regression procedures in which reading researchers use a number of independent variables to explain reading comprehension. We discuss the problem of simultaneous equation bias (SEB) and provide examples of how this problem may give researchers a distorted picture of the comprehension process. Finally, we offer a common sense approach to dealing with this problem.
