Abstract
The use of optical coherence tomography (OCT) for the imaging of vascular implant development was discussed. OCT provides the necessary resolution to for imaging of vascular implants and uses reflection of light rather than sound waves to construct a depth-resolved image of the specimen. It was found that the resolution of the OCT system was sufficient for differentiating the proliferating layer of smooth cells from the underlying polymeric graft. The results show that OCT can be an effective tool for non-invasively monitoring the development of patient smooth muscle cell sodded grafts.
