Abstract

Summary form only given. The various issues involved in selecting a LAN architecture to host a real-time distributed system are examined. The LAN architectures considered include the IEEE 802 standards for the token ring, token bus, and CSMA/CD local area networks. The design, interconnection, and implementation issues of a real-time distributed system on the selected LAN architecture are described.
