Abstract
This article focuses on the new commuter rail service in southeast Florida. The performance and characteristics of Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority (Tri-Rail) are presented, along with observations concerning rail implementation in a non-traditional transit market characterized by low densities. The discussion results from two major analyses: an on-board survey and a peer review analysis. Selected results of these two studies are presented to provide an overall status report for the Tri-Rail system and to suggest lessons that can be learned for other communities that are planning contemplating investments in rail systems that will serve markets similar to Tri-Rail's. -from Authors
