Abstract
As cities across the globe aim to spore more bicycling as part of their transport portfolio, natural questions emerge such as where to find the space to build out the network and will it be worth it? This chapter contextualizes the advantages of planning for bicycle travel against the background of the urban fabric that exists in most cities. We argue that cities are closer to being set up to optimize travel by bike and that space in existing city streets is prime to be changed to prioritize such.
