Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter

Abstract

The archaeological Southwest of North America comprises the “Four Corners” states of the USA (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah) and northern portions of the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Sonora. The region's physiography and biota are described, and early Paleoindian and Archaic archaeological horizons are summarized. The three major archaeological cultures of the region – Anasazi (Ancestral Pueblo), Hohokam, and Mogollon—are introduced and summarized. Key issues and future research directions are identified.
