Abstract
Although residential treatment is widely being used for juvenile offenders there is little information on the criteria used to decide when a young person should be placed in a residential setting. This article presents a decision-making model developed for use by parole workers in determining the levelof restrictiveness and the need for a residential placement. The use of such a model can lead to more consistent decisions regarding placement and supervision of juvenile offenders.
