Abstract

Examines the state's involvement in the planning process in Britain, as illustrated by the significance and character of the planning inquiry. Spatial tensions constitute an addition to normal political cleavages. Frequently, they emerge as a result of the planning process, which is increasingly responsible for the location of major negative externalities upon the landscape. -J.Sheail
