Abstract

We show how workflow systems can be augmented to lever age provenance information to enhance usability. In par ticular, we will demonstrate new mechanisms and intuitivf user interfaces designed to allow users to query workflow; by example and to refine workflows by analogies. These techniques are implemented in VisTrails, an open-sourc provenance-enabled scientific workflow sj'stem that can be combined with a wide range of tools, libraries, and visualization systems. We will show different scenarios where these techniques can be used to simplify the notoriously hard task of creating and refining workflows.
