Abstract

An effective riser must solidify after that portion of the casting it is intended to feed, and provide adequate feed metal to the casting. From these principles and experimental results, an engineering method is presented for design o risers. Examples of riser design curves are presented which can be used by determining effective volume to surface area ratio of the feeding path, volume of the casting to be fed by the riser, and geometrical considerations of the particular casting-riser system.
