Abstract
SOON AFTER THE tragic events of September 11, 2001, the University of Minnesota published a 9/11 story on the institution's website. A faculty member in the Department of Geography, Eric Sheppard, described how his students in a 100-level course needed to talk in class on 9/11 about the shock of the events ("Teaching in the Midst of Tragedy"). Psychologically they couldn't do anything else that day. However, two days later they didn't want to talk about it at all. Sheppard then accounts that after a month had passed the students were ready to be more reflective and analytical.
