The development of self-confidence in psychiatric residents: A survey

Psychiatric residency training has been conceptualized as a period of professional identity formation. The development of self-confidence is an integral part of this process. An investigation was undertaken to assess the nature and causes of changes this determinant undergoes during the training process. Self-confidence seems to proceed in an upward slope throughout the residency. However, this development does not accelerate until the third year, following the resolution of entry struggles during the second inpatient rotation.
