Abstract
A one-dimensional steady-state model describing the damage caused by materials removal vaporization and liquid expulsion due to laser material interaction are presented. The effect of the radiative heat loss is investigated. Gray and diffusive radiative heat loss is assumed. It is found that the radiation plays an insignificant role in determining the surface temperature, rate of materials removal both in vapor and liquid form, and the exit plane Mach number. Results with radiative heat loss are obtained and compared to those without radiative heat loss.
