Abstract

Among the many challenges in developing optical see-through head-mounted displays (HMD) for consumer applications, achieving high-contrast image in bright environment is one of the key obstacles. Most of the state-of-the-art optical see-though head-mounted displays (OST-HMD) lack the ability to occlude the real scene and fail to render the virtual scene in high contrast with bright surroundings. In this paper, we will review the technical challenges, present the development of an occlusion-capable OST-HMD prototype, and demonstrate its mutual occlusion capability and performance in bright environments.
