Abstract
The wavelet compression of electrocardiogram (EEG) signals using JPEG2000 codec was discussed. The precise rate control and progressive quality are the characteristics of the JPEG2000 codec. In the compression process, the one-dimensional ECG sequence was processed to produce a two-dimensional matrix. Each period of the ECG was separated to exploit the intrabeat and interbeat dependencies. Period was normalized to account the differences in length and stored as one row matrix. The matrix is then encoded using JPEG2000.
